Some of Sutton’s most inspiring women will feature in a photographic exhibition to mark the launch of a new awards programme on International Women’s Day 2019.
Sutton Women Mean Business Awards in association with Willmott Dixon is an exciting new initiative to celebrate the important role women play in the business and community life of the borough.
The awards opened for entries at a sparkling Afternoon Tea for 80 guests on Friday, 8th March with the unveiling of the specially commissioned Sutton Inspirational Women Photographic Exhibition at the landmark Sutton Point development.
Each of the dozen women whose Pop Art-style portraits feature in the exhibition are high achievers in their fields. However you didn’t have to be the CEO or a high flyer to enter the awards – the entry categories were open to anyone within any organisation in the borough of Sutton.
The role of the Sutton Inspirational Women is to be ambassadors for the awards. They will help encourage and motivate women of all ages, from all backgrounds and across all fields of endeavour to enter the awards and share their stories, as well as their successes and achievements.
Sarah McKinnell, a Senior Project Manager, with Willmott Dixon Construction was delighted to have been chosen as one of the first Sutton Inspirational Women.
She said: “I’m pleased to support the Sutton Women Mean Business Awards, as I believe it is so important for women to be recognised for their achievements and shout about their success. Ultimately it is through this recognition that we will achieve equality in the workplace, which is particularly imperative in male dominated industries.”
A joint venture between programme partners Successful Sutton and White Label Creative, the new awards invited entries and nominations from the many working women, who are vital to the success of local businesses and communities.
Patricia Park, BID Manager, Successful Sutton, said: “These brilliant new awards provide a platform for the many talented and entrepreneurial women in our borough to be recognised for the contribution they make to our economy and our community. We also hope they will be role models for the next generation of women in Sutton.”
The awards feature several free-to-enter categories covering a range of professions, businesses and sectors, including charities and social enterprise. There was also a chance for people to nominate women in the workplace who they feel should be recognised, as well the opportunity to recognise those – male or female, business or charity – who have enabled and empowered women in the workplace.
The Sutton Women Mean Business Awards are sponsored by Successful Sutton, Sutton Council, Willmott Dixon, ABC Hire, Beddington for Business, KIPPA BID, Riva Bingo and launch sponsor CNM-Sutton Point.
