Opportunity Sutton Letter to Businesses

Updated: Monday 4th May 2020

Following on from our previous correspondence, the Government has recently announced that on the 4th of May, they will be launching a fast-track finance scheme for small businesses to borrow between £2,000-£50,000, and access the cash loan within days of applying.

These loans will be interest free for the first 12 months, and will be applied for through a short and simple online form accessed through a network of accredited lenders. This scheme is designed to ensure that small firms who need a vital cash injection to keep operating can get finance in a matter of days. Further details can be found here.

Again, we urge you to please help us by letting your Sutton-based business contacts know that they can contact us directly. If you would like to be kept informed on local and national work to support business both now and beyond the current emergency please sign up here to receive our regular newsletter.

If you are experiencing hardship and need support, or would simply like some advice or guidance please get in touch via opportunitysutton@sutton.gov.uk. Please tell us about the specific issues affecting you and details on how you would like us to contact you to provide advice and guidance and/or direct you to the appropriate support.

Opportunity Sutton Letter to Businesses

Dear Sutton Business,

Re: Business support from Sutton Council

I am writing to you on behalf of the ‘Opportunity Sutton’ team within the Economic Regeneration service at Sutton Council.

The team provides support to Sutton-based businesses and we want to reach as many businesses as possible to understand how we can support you during the current challenging economic climate related to the Coronavirus emergency.

You may be aware that the UK Government has put in place a range of support measures to help businesses through this time and you can access further information on these initiatives via the links below:

The Council is also providing direct grants in some circumstances and applying business rates holidays to eligible businesses directly. For further information please visit our webpage, and contact businessrates@sutton.gov.uk if you have not done so already.

Many of those with businesses in Sutton also live in the borough. For further information about how the Council is supporting residents, please visit our COVID-19 webpages

While there is a wide range of support available, we are aware that some businesses, particularly small, micro and sole trader businesses are less likely to be on central and local government databases. We are therefore using other available channels to try and reach as many Sutton-based businesses as possible to identify how we can help to protect the livelihoods of local businesses and residents.

Please help us by letting your Sutton-based business contacts know that they can contact us directly.

Yours sincerely,

Olyver Cox
