Social Saturday 2017

14 Oct 2017, from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm

The first Social Saturday in 2014 had cross-party support and was backed by the Prime Minister, David Cameron. Successive campaigns in 2015 and 2016 have reached consumers, MPs, local authorities and businesses throughout the UK.

What happened in 2016?

  • Over 60 events took place across the UK, in places including Newcastle, Scarborough, Norwich, London, Bristol, Loughborough, Plymouth and Oxford. These ranged from woodland walks and community fun fairs to screen printing workshops, social enterprise lunches and business networking events.
  • Social enterprise supporters Michael Sheen and Comedian & Actor Chris Addison supported the day and met Social Enterprise UK members at SEUK’s social enterprise pop-up stall at London’s iconic Borough Market
  • 17 MPs from across political parties visited social enterprises across the country, including Caroline Lucas (Co-Leader of the Green Party), Ed Vaisey, Conservative MP for Didcot and Wantage and Cat Smith, Labour MP for Lancaster and Fleetwood.
  • Social Saturday was featured on Sky News at the start of the day and was all over regional papers and radio. It was also featured on the BBC website, the Big Issue and Forbes.
