The Better Working Futures
Areas covered: South London (Sutton, Merton, Croydon, Richmond and Kingston)
Over 18 + seeking employment with a:
– Health condition or disability
– Long term unemployed
– Carers; ex-carers; homeless, former Armed Forces, member of Armed Forces reserves; partner of current/former Armed Forces personnel; person with a drug/alcohol dependency; care leavers; refugees; ex-offenders/offenders; victims of domestic violence; young people in gangs. The aim of the Better Working Futures program is to support unemployed adults to start and sustain a job. Participants on the service are supported to create a personal plan of action that will meet their needs and aspirations.
Individual and group support provided, including functional skills, vocational skills, employability
skills, motivational and practical skills, is included.
Activities include –
Career planning, CV writing, support applying for work, interview practice
Health assessments – conducted by health professionals
Signposting and wrap-around support to engage with specialist support
Work experience, taster sessions and employer route ways
Motivational and confidence building sessions
Literacy, numeracy, ESOL support
Support with managing drug and alcohol issues
Support to find and retain suitable accommodation
Family support and/or mediation
Access to funding for childcare and interview clothing
Better Working Futures provides personal advice and guidance, skills training and health support, helping Sutton residents find the right job. The service gives people who face additional barriers to finding work the best support available.
An Employment Adviser will help you with many different things including building confidence, searching for suitable jobs, completing application forms, preparing you for interviews but the support doesn’t stop there. They will also continue to support you when you are in work to help you succeed.
