Kickstart

The Kickstart scheme provides funding to employers to create jobs for 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit. Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:

Employers can spread the job start dates up until 31 December 2021. You’ll get funding until 30 June 2022 if a young person starts their job on 31 December 2021.

Further funding is available for training and support so that young people on the scheme can get a job in the future.

A guide for employers from the Sutton Job Hub

By creating exclusive vacancies specifically for this scheme, you get:

  • Employability course to meet the requirements of your Kickstart placement provided by local Colleges
  • Full in-roll support to you and your Kickstarter through your Gateway
  • Applications are all pre-screened before you receive them
  • Grant funding covering pay and PAYE costs for 6 months
  • £750,000 support funding to cover costs of internal training, equipment or support for your Kickstarter
  • Multiple opportunities create many more opportunities in your organisation

What you need to do:

  1. Contact your Gateway to discuss potential opportunities
  2. Complete the Kickstart Employer Application Form – Your Gateway will apply for grant funding on your behalf
  3. Complete the Job Descriptions whilst waiting for your grant approval
  4. Complete and return the grant approval form when sent to you via Gateway within one month of receipt
  5. Interview prospective applicants as you would any other employee, providing feedback for your Gateway
  6. Confirm with your Gateway once you have selected a suitable applicant
  7. Complete full induction and on-boarding for your Kickstarter as you would any other PAYE Employee
  8. Provide internal training, support and guidance to make it a fulfilling opportunity
  9. At the end of the placement, you have an opportunity to hire, place on apprenticeship or restart a new placement. Your Gateway will provide you with details on all alternatives
