The London Borough of Sutton is home to over 6,600 businesses and 4 in 10 residents of working age are educated to a higher level, putting the borough ahead of the national average. We believe that apprenticeships can play an important part in the local economy, by improving skills and driving productivity. However, only a small number of young people in the borough choose an apprenticeship as a career option.
Young people have told us that they need more and better information about apprenticeships and local businesses have told us that they need more support and brokering to find young people.
The Sutton Apprenticeship Hub
The Sutton Apprenticeship Hub is designed and managed by apprentices, to help match the supply and demand of apprenticeship opportunities in the London Borough of Sutton.
The hub is a straight-talking accessible resource for young people and their parents, educators and businesses, to educate them about the benefits of starting, or offering an apprenticeship and the career prospects involved.

In Spring 2017 the way the government funds apprenticeships will change. Some employers will be required to contribute to a new apprenticeship levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers via the Apprenticeship Levy. The levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to invest in apprenticeships.
